She was born on April 24th 1980, in Constanta, Romania. In 2008 and 2009 she was the secretary general of the Democrat Liberal Party’s Youth Organization. Her interest in European policies and politics dates from 2008 and 2009 when she did an internship at MEPs Iosif Matula and Monica Iacob Ridzi’s parliamentary cabinets.

On June 7th 2009 she ran as an independent at the European elections and won a seat in the European Parliament. She represented Romania in the European People’s Party (EPP) Group, the largest in the European Parliament. As a MEP, she was interested in promoting a European Strategy for the Danube Region and a European Strategy for the Black Sea. Elena was also interested in helping the Republic of Moldova on its European way, as well as in defending human rights.
