Spain (Partido Socialista Obrero Español) MEP 2009 -2014
Ricardo Cortés Lastra was born in Castro Urdiales , Cantabria , on September 23, 1969. He is a Spanish politician and lawyer , MEP from the Group of European Socialists ( Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament, S & D) since June 2009 January to May 2014.
He has bachelor of Law and a Master in Public ADMINISTRATION ( IESE Madrid), his training includes also a Diploma in Advanced Studies in Public International Law and International Relations and a Graduate Specialization in International Development and Cooperation (Faculty of Economics, University of the Basque Country .)
His activity as MEP led him to be Chairman of the Delegation to the Joint Parliamentary Committee EU – Mexico and a member of both the Conference of Delegation Chairmen, and the Committee on Development (Title, spokesman for the S & D Group) and the Delegation in the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly. Also, he served as an alternate option to the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development and the Delegation for relations with Afghanistan.
Socialist activist since 1988, in his career he has served as Executive Director of the Spaniards in the World Foundation “Ramón Rubial” (2007 and 2009) and has been Chief of Staff of the Secretariat of Federal Organization PSOE between 2004 and 2007. Founding member of the Association AREA EUROPA XXI , created for the promotion of Spanish-European values in society today is the PSOE Federal Officer for the PSOE abroad. The municipal and regional elections of Spain in 2003 made him the Coordinator of all election campaigns PSOE outside Spain. Since July 2013 he is responsible for the Department of Social Movements and Citizenship in PSOE Cantabria .
He has also worked as a volunteer and is the author of several publications and international conferences.
