Moving towards a Green Transition: Sustainability is everyone’s business!

European Parliament Vice President Eva Kaili, and EU40, the network of young MEPs, are delighted to invite you and your colleagues to an upcoming in-person event, entitled ‘Moving towards a Green Transition: Sustainability is everyone’s business!’ This most timely of gatherings will take place on the evening of 13 October 2022 (17:00-19:00 CET), at the European Parliament, Brussels (Room: SPINELLI A3H1). The event, which will be hosted by VP Kaili, seeks to assess the challenges and opportunities of sustainability policy for SME’s, with the overall aim being to generate greater engagement between European policy-makers and key stakeholders.

Background: The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the green transition, and the wider green wave, are radically changing the way in which we live here in Europe.  Today, more than ever, we understand the necessity to live in harmony with a world that is experiencing radical climatic change. New sets of rules and suggestions, aimed at increasing the sustainability of products and services across the EU’s Single Market are being introduced to encourage (and push) SME business models to adopt a more positive and proactive approach towards wider society and the environment. Companies operating within the EU jurisdiction –large and small– must adapt quickly to these changes. Today, SMEs represent 99% of all businesses in the EU. They employ around 100 million people, account for more than half of Europe’s GDP and play a key role in adding value to every sector of the economy. SMEs bring innovative solutions to challenges like climate change, resource efficiency and social cohesion and help to spread this innovation throughout Europe’s regions. However, support at the EU and national levels are nonetheless needed to equip SMEs with the right instruments to undertake the green transformation (EU and national funding opportunities).
