Following the new proposal on the Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive, farmers are looking for feasible alternatives that will allow them to work sustainably. MEP Alexander Bernhuber will tell us about his activities linked to the Directive.
EU40 – the network of young MEPs, and EU40 MEP Alexander Bernhuber are delighted to invite you to our next upcoming event titled: ‘The future of agriculture: Moving towards a sustainable pesticides policy?’. This discussion will take place on May 2, 2023 (17:00-18:30 CET), in the European Parliament in Brussels.
In June 2022, the Commission published its proposal to revise the Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive, which would enshrine into law the flagship Farm to Fork targets on pesticides. The Parliament and Council have been grappling with serious questions over how these targets are to be implemented: how European farmers will be able to reduce the use and risk of pesticides by 50% without impacting their livelihoods? What feasible alternatives are out there for European farmers?
There is already a lot of attention on the impact of this proposal. Hence, this is why EU40 and Alexander Bernhuber have decided to organise such an interesting inter-institutional debate, granting us an opportunity to discuss with various stakeholders the types of tools available for such a transition.
