We are delighted to invite you to EU40’s in-person event, ‘The Sustainability of EU Agricultural Trade: How can Europe strike the right balance?,’ taking place on Thursday 23 June 2022, 15:00 CET at the European Parliament, Room no. SPINELLI 5G1-BRU.
The ever-increasing integration of global food value chains raise questions about how trade and the environment interact. Namely, how can a changing natural environment (e.g. climate change impact) modify trade patterns? Moreover, what is the optimal combination of trade and environmental policies needed to harness the benefits of trade while minimizing environmental costs? As the EU Green Deal and Farm2Fork agendas move forward, taking on a horizontal approach to legislation, we want to explore which policy tools best facilitate strong trade relations, whilst ensuring sustainability and protecting EU food security/affordability.
We might thus also ask ourselves, what is the role of the food value chain, and what responsibility should farmers bear? Is food production any different from other sectors as it relates to trade relations? Or more generally, what is the way forward to reinforcing the resilience of our food systems? Join Emma Wiesner MEP, and multi-stakeholder representation from across this sector, as we discuss and debate these and many other interrelated issues.
Confirmed speakers include:
• Ms. Emma Wiesner MEP (SE-Renew), ENVI Member, AGRI Substitute
• Mr. Alberto D’Avino, DG Trade (EC), Agriculture and Food
