Digital4Smarties_1024As the European Parliament is about to start its work on the draft Directive to establish Europe’s first “Electronic Communications Code”, EU40 brought together all the key players working on this vital reform for the first 2017 roundtable on the topic – powered by ETNO.

From broadband investment and spectrum policy to consumer services and innovation – the new Code has the potential to transform Europe into a leading digital union.

MEP Pilar del Castillo (EPP), ITRE rapporteur for the European Electronic Communications Code and rapporteurs MEP Lambert Van Nisterlooij (EPP), MEP Miapetra Kumpula-Natri (S&D), MEP Dita Charanzova (ALDE) and MEP Kaja Kallas (ALDE) co-hosted the second Digital4Smarties workshop during which we fostered the discussion regarding the updated content of the package, what is relevant, what tools are needed, what the impact in the media will be and more.

The breakfast debate took place on the 11th of January 2017 (Wed), from 8.00 to 9.30 AM, at the European Parliament. 

The European Commission‘s point of view was delivered by Anthony Whelan, Director of DG CONNECT, Directorate B, Electronic Communications Networks & Services.

Experts from the Council and Permanent Representations of Germany, Italy, FranceEstonia and Malta have taken part in the event, together with other high-level players from the European Commission and a few industry stakeholders.

Exclusive guests included, as well:

  • Members of the European Parliament;
  • Principal policy advisors to political groups;
  • ITRE and IMCO Secretariats;
  • Parliamentary assistants working on the telecoms reform package.
