EU40 Young Parliament Members European Forum. Opening speech by EP President

For the 3rd year in a row, EU40 seeks to bring together young Members of Parliament (under 40 or 40 years old at the time of election) from the 27 Member States for a ‘Young Parliament Members Forum’ at the European Parliament in Brussels between the 7th and 8th of November 2017, in order to generate a stronger cooperation between the national Parliaments and the European Parliament, but also to tackle some of Europe’s most urgent issues.

Building on the success of previous years, when, under the high patronage of the European Parliament and with the direct support of European Parliament President at that time, Martin Schulz, we managed to bring together a total of 80 young Members of Parliament from 14 Member States, we are now delighted to organise the third cross-party Forum which announces to be even more successful than the previous editions.

In 2015, we welcomed 50 young Members of Parliament from 14 Member States at our first Forum – video and pictures are available at the following link: We are proud to have been able to welcome a similar amount of MPs in 2016. The video is available at: while interviews with the distinguished speakers and pictures can be consulted here:

The power of the message of 50 legislators from 27 different countries, united by their young age and vision to make a change for the better, is not to be underestimated.

Looking forward to welcoming Members of the national parliaments and MEPs on this occasion!
