  • Degree in engineering, Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) (1997). Master’s in management and marketing (1997-1999). Doctorate in economics (2007).
  • Lecturer (1999-2001). Member of the Sejm (2001-2009).
  • Member of the National Executive Committee of the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) (2000-2003). Member of the SLD National Executive (2003-2009). SLD Chairman (2005-2008).
  • Member of the Sejm (4th, 5th and 6th parliamentary terms) – member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, Committee on European Affairs, Committee on Foreign Affairs and Committee on Constitutional Accountability (2001-2009). Deputy Marshal of the Sejm (2005-2007). Leader of the Left Parliamentary Group (2007-2009).
  • Deputy Minister of Agriculture, government plenipotentiary for bringing agriculture into line with EU requirements (since April 2003). Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development (2 July 2003-May 2005).
  • Speaker of the Student Parliament at the SGGW (1996-1997). Chairman of the Executive of the Polish Student Parliament Foundation – State Treasury (1997-1999). Speaker of the Student Parliament of the Republic of Poland (1999-2000). Chairman of the National Executive of the Rural Youth Association (1999-2002).
